The Burt family has been farming in the pioneer valley for over 6 generations,
so it seemed only natural when our son Joshua approached us in 2003 about starting a winery.
He had the wine making knowledge, we had the land and equipment, why not merge the two. Oh and it had tobe organic.
We love farming, we love wine, it just seemed a natural leap so we jumped.
Year 1: We planted
We planted the weekend of May 14th and 15th of 2004. It was 95+ degrees that weekend.
It took every moment of daylight and then some of the entire weekend to get 1225 plants in the ground with alot of help from family and friends.
Little did we realize, we had not even begun the "real" work.
