Late spring in the vineyard

by Linda 6/15/2008 4:08:00 AM

It  is mid june and we have the beginning promises of grapes forming.

We have just had a heat wave and the vines loved it, growing vigorously.
Our time in the vineyard is spent debudding (picking off shoots where there shouldn't be like on the base of the vines) and hand weeding.  Our grapes are organically grown so we don't spray herbicides.  It is alot more work and the vineyard doesn't look as pretty as herbicide sprayed vineyards but we think the trade off is a better tasting wine and better for the environment.
